ENVIS NODE, Department of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with Loyola College organized a web based Environmental Quiz & Poster contest for City college students on September 2nd and 3rd, 2004 at Lawrence Sundaram Auditorium, Loyola College. The contest was graced by Rev. Dr. Jeyaraj, Rector, and co-ordinated by Dr. D.Sudarsanam, Prof. & Head, Department of Zoology, Loyola College. It was inaugurated by Dr. S.Balaji, I.F.S., Director of Environment, Government of Tamil Nadu in his inaugural address he emphasized the importance of biodiversity and the need for environmental conservation. Mr. Ashish Kumar Srivastava, Joint Director and Dr. C.Thomson Jacob, Programme Officer, ENVISTAP Node, have highlighted the objectives and activities of Environmental Information System of the Department of Environment respectively.
In the poster 18 colleges (numbering 18 x3 =54) with 54 students participated and depicted various themes of environmental protection, conservation, education and biodiversity.

The first prize for the poster was bagged by Loyola College team comprising Mr. Sai Sidharth, Mr. Samuel Moris and Mr. Arul Madhav Stephen.

The second prize for the poster was bagged by Dr. M.G.R.Janaki College team comprising Ms. Maitreyi. S, Ms. N. Dayana and Ms. Durgamai, L.R.

The third prize for the poster was bagged by S.R.M.Arts and Science College team comprising Mr. Senthil, Ms. Abirami Visalakshi and Mr. Arul Jyothi, J

Due to tie -up special third prize was awarded to Bharathi Women's College Ms. Devi, P. Ms. Rubab Anjum, K.M and Ms. Jayasheela, D.
Similarly in the quiz contest 21 colleges (21 x3 = 63) 63 students participated
- The first prize for the quiz was bagged by Loyola Evening College team comprising Mr. M.S.Gopinath, Mr. W.K. Karthikeyan. And Mr. David Jesudas
- The second prize for the poster was bagged by Stella Maris College team comprising Ms. Anasuya Das, Ms. N. Amrita and Ms. Nini Nevil.
- The Third prize for the poster was bagged by Women's Christian College team comprising Ms. Gayathri Ramachandran, Ms. Divya Karnad and Ms. Fathima Abdul Majeed
- Special second prize was awarded to Loyola College Mr. Sai Sidharth, Mr. Mridul Thomas, K. Mr. Akshay Thomas
The students were awarded a cash prize and a certificate by Dr. S. Balaji, I.F.S., Director, DoE. The first prize for poster and quiz gets a cash prize of Rs. 1000; while the second and third gets a cash prizes of Rs.750 and 500 each. Two additional prizes were awarded by the Director, DoE for the quiz and for the model prepared by Bharathi Women's College.
Dr. S. Balaji., I.F.S., appreciated the students for their interest towards environmental conservation and protection. Dr. D. Sudarsanam, Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Loyola College, thanked the Department of Environment in general and Dr. Balahji in particular for tapping the potentials of youth in inculcating a sense responsibility to the cause and sustenance of our environment and his involvement in conserving the biodiversity. He also expressed his appreciation to the student enthusiasm sincere efforts.. The colleges reciprocated their thankfulness to the initiative taken by the Department of Environment and Loyola College.
