The Department of Environment and Climate Change has celebrated the World Environment Day 2025 under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In this programme, Hon’ble Minister for Finance and Environment and Climate Change welcomed a Hon’ble Chief Minister, Minister’s, Minister’s, Government Officials and Participants. The Hon’ble Chief Minister launched several green initiatives, including the establishment of 14 abandoned fishing net collection centres across coastal districts. Awards were also presented to individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions to environmental protection. These included Green Awards to District Collectors, Best District Forest Protector, Best Forest Range Officer, Chief Minister’s Water Body Protectors Awards and Voluntary Green Rating Awards. The event highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change through initiatives like the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, Tamil Nadu Wetland Mission, Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission and Tamil Nadu Coastal Restoration Mission. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to eliminate single-use plastics and promote traditional, eco-friendly cloth bags. Tmt. Supriya Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forest Department gave the vote of thanks to all Participants. Department of Environment and Climate Change officials and EIACP staff also participated.
