CEE preparing manual for nature camps: The Hindu, 9 th December
The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) is preparing a camp manual, which could be used by the Forest Department for its nature camps for school students at point Calimere. The sanctuary is known for the migratory birds. The aim is to help the children understand their role in environment protection.

Wildlife Bill: The Hindu, 19th December
The wildlife (protection) Amendment Act, 2002 has come into effect on 17th January, 2003 to make the penalties stiffer for poaching and other wildlife-related offence. Under the new regime, hunting of wildlife and other such offences would attract a minimum penalty of three-year imprisonment, which is extendable up to seven years.

Indian wetlands in conservation list: The Hindu, 24th December
The wildlife and bird sanctuary at Point Calimere in Tamil Nadu and 10 other wetlands in India have been recently included in the international Ramsar list of wetlands, which makes them eligible for a global package for conservation.

Site for ecological heritage: The Hindu, 24th December.
C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre launched a website dedicated to disseminate information on conservation of the ecological heritage and sacred sites of the country. The details can be accessed at http://ecoheritage.cpreec.org. It includes a list of trees, groves, animals, gardens, mountains, rivers and sacred tanks.
